How Do You Figure Out Your Gender?

Posted: 2 days ago
Hey, I hope this is okay to ask here. I’ve been feeling kinda off lately and not really sure why. I’m 17, and people see me as a guy — and I guess I’ve always gone along with that — but sometimes it just doesn’t sit right.

I’m not saying I think I’m a girl or anything, it’s more like… I don’t fully feel like either? Or maybe I do and I’m just confused. I don’t really know. How do people figure this stuff out?

Hey Alex, first of all — yeah, it’s totally okay to ask. I’ve been in a pretty similar place myself. Around your age, I started feeling like the usual “male” label didn’t match everything I felt. It was really frustrating not having the words for any of it.

One thing that really helped me was a website called https://spectrum-id.com/. They’ve got a test specifically on gender identity that’s built by professionals, and it helped me put my thoughts into something more concrete. It didn’t give me an exact answer, but it gave me a good starting point.

They also have other useful tests — like one on gender roles, another on dysphoria, and one on being transgender. I took a few, and each gave me more insight into how I relate to myself and others.

Plus, the site isn’t just about tests. There are a ton of easy-to-read articles that go over different gender topics without making it complicated or overwhelming. If you’re feeling lost or just want to explore without pressure, it’s honestly a great place to start.
